2008-2009 Schedule
As many of you know, most of my workshops and classes were sponsored by the MSU Master Gardener Volunteer Program (MGVP). The MGVP, a self-funded program, has been eliminated from the Horticulture Department at Michigan State University. The employment of Mary McLellan, who has overseen the MGVP program for 17 years, was terminated on 9/30/08 and her long-time assistant, Sharon Conley, has had to find another position within the University system.
Once the Master Gardener Volunteer Program (MGVP) State Office in the Horticulture Department had been eliminated, the Michigan State University Extension Program immediately brought the Master Gardener Volunteer Program under their wing and have hired new leadership to run the program.
My Garden Design workshops and classes came about because of Mary McLellan's understanding of what you, as gardeners, wanted to further your horticultural education. I am personally sadden and disheartened about this decision and I feel that this is a huge roadblock in bringing you quality garden design educational programs in Mary's vision of innovative formats such as on-line courses, video-conferences, boot camps, hands-on laboratories, etc.
I do not anticipate that the new leadership will be supportive in sponsoring my workshops or any of the new classes that I have prepared. I am currently looking for new sponsors and hopefully will be able to offer my workshops in 2009. Thanks for your support over the past 6 years!
