Advanced Garden Design I

Prerequisite: Introduction to Garden Design

This workshop will build upon the introductory workshop by giving the participants an opportunity to apply the design theory and the conceptional exercises they have worked with to more complex, real-life design exercises.

Lecture time will be much less than in the introductory workshop. While participants are working on the exercises, the instructor will be available for individual assistance. The lecture material, visuals, and the design exercises will be in a manual for each participant to take home.

The design exercises will include:
  • Introductory Material Application
  • Drawing a Site to scale
  • Drawing a Given Shape to Different Scales
  • Drawing Plants to Scale and Calculating Quantities
  • Creating Plant Palettes
  • Design a Full-Sun Bed
  • Design a Shaded Garden path
  • Drawing a Scaled Plan from Field Measurements

Plant knowledge will be very helpful to fully benefit from the design exercises. All participants should bring some plant selection resource books to the workshop to assist them in the plant selection process. Contact your workshop sponsor for recommended resources.
